About this Park
Momich Lakes Park is a popular park for fishing, swimming and boating. It is located east of the northern end of Adams Lake, approximately 110 km northeast of Kamloops.
The park protects the most northerly occurrence of western larch in the province, as well as winter ranges for moose and mule deer. Sockeye salmon and native stocks of trout and other fish species are present in the Momich River.
Safety information
- Adams is a large lake, and subject to gusts of strong wind. Note that there are few pullouts available during the high water of May and June.
- Bring your own drinking water, as potable water is not available in the park.
Special notes
- The nearest public telephone is at Vavenby Store, approximately 60 km away by forest service road.
- Please help to prevent the spread of Eurasian Water Milfoil by removing all weeds from your boat and motor before launching, and after removing it from the lake.
Location notes
Three routes, all gravel logging roads, can access this area.
- From Hwy 5 south of Barriere, via Agate Bay Road and along the west side and northern end of Adams Lake (80 km).
- From TransCanada Hwy 1 at Squilax to Adams Lake roads (95 km).
- From Hwy 5 at Vavenby, via logging roads (60 km).
Nearest towns include Chase, Scotch Creek, Kamloops, Vavenby, Clearwater.
Activities
- 9693:Canoeing Canoeing and kayaking are popular. There is a popular meandering route through the large wetland connecting Momich and Little Momich Lakes.
- 9693:Swimming There are sandy and pebble beaches at the east end of Momich Lake and where Momich River enters Adams Lake. There are no roped off swimming areas in this park.
- 9693:Fishing Kokanee, rainbow, and lake trout can be found here.
- 9693:Wildlife viewing The park and surrounding area have excellent opportunities for wildlife viewing.
- 9693:Pets on leash Pets and domestic animals must be on a leash at all times and are not allowed in beach areas or park buildings. You are responsible for their behaviour and must dispose of their excrement. Backcountry areas are not suitable for dogs or other pets due to wildlife issues and the potential for problems with bears.
- 9693:Cycling Cycling is permitted, though there are no designated trails.Please note that bicycles with electric assist motors (e-bikes) are not allowed on the trails within Momich Lakes Park. E-bikes are restricted to park roads and areas where motorized use is permitted. The only exception to this policy will be for authorized and identified trail maintenance bikes conducting work on behalf of BC Parks.
- 9693:Waterskiing There are water skiing opportunities on Adams Lake. There are no size restrictions for boat motors on Adams Lake. There is no boat launch access on any of the three Momich Lakes.
- 9693:Windsurfing Adams Lake provides windsurfing opportunities.
- 9693:Scuba diving There are some scuba diving opportunities in Adams Lake.
- 9693:Horseback riding Horseback riding is permitted, though there are no designated trails or facilities.
- 9693:Hunting The discharge and carrying of firearms is permitted in this park for the purposes of hunting during open season. Please consult the BC Government Hunting and Trapping Regulations Synopsis for more information. Contact BC Parks at parkinfo@gov.bc.ca with any specific questions.
- 9693:Winter recreation Many winter activities are permitted, but no facilities are provided. There are ice-fishing opportunities in this park.
Facilities
- 9693:Pit or flush toilets There are only user-maintained pit toilets available in this park.
- 9693:Campfires No firewood is provided. Some fire rings are available. The gathering of firewood in a park is illegal, so fires should only be used for emergency drying and warming. If a fire is used for an emergency, please keep it small, and ensure it is completely out before you leave. Use a camp stove for cooking. Campfires are not permitted on the beach below the high water mark.
