About this Park
The Hazelton Mountains form a beautiful backdrop for this well-maintained campground. It is a peaceful place to enjoy a relaxing overnight stay with camping, picnicking, swimming and fishing.
Seeley Lake Park offers a small, sandy beach on the lake to visitors for day-use and swimming. Picnic tables and pit toilets are available.
Special notes
- A marsh harbours a variety of nesting birds, mammals and reptiles. Visitors are asked to respect this habitat by minimizing disturbance.
Location notes
This park is located 10 km west of Hazelton on Highway 16. New Hazelton and Old Hazelton are the closest communities to this park.
Activities
- 74:Hiking There is a 500 m walking trail along the lakeshore that leads to a wildlife viewing platform. Please supervise children on this trail. For your own safety and the preservation of the park, obey posted signs and keep to designated trails. Shortcutting trails destroys plant life and soil structure.
- 74:Swimming The day-use area provides good access to Seeley Lake in the summer for swimming.
- 74:Fishing Seeley Lake contains cutthroat and rainbow trout and fishing here can be rewarding. There are opportunities for ice fishing in this park.
- 74:Canoeing Seeley Lake Park offers canoeing and kayaking opportunities under the scenic backdrop of the Hazelton Mountains. Boat use is restricted to electric motors, only on Seeley Lake. There is no boat launch provided at the park.
- 74:Wildlife viewing There is a wildlife-viewing platform located on the edge of Seely Lake. Visitors can gain access to it by following a short walking trail. The Seeley Lake marsh harbours nesting birds, mammals and reptiles.
- 74:Pets on leash Pets and domestic animals must be on a leash at all times and are not allowed in beach areas. You are responsible for their behaviour and must dispose of their excrement.
- 74:Cycling Bicycles must keep to roadways. Bicycle helmets are mandatory in British Columbia.Please note that bicycles with electric assist motors (e-bikes) are not allowed on the trails within Seeley Lake Park. E-bikes are restricted to park roads and areas where motorized use is permitted. The only exception to this policy will be for authorized and identified trail maintenance bikes conducting work on behalf of BC Parks.
- 74:Winter recreation There is ice skating available on Seeley Lake. Check the ice thickness before venturing out.
Facilities
- 74:Picnic areas The park has a day-use and picnic area located on the shore of Seeley Lake with scenic mountain views. Swimming and bird watching are popular activities at the park. There are picnic tables and pit toilets available.
- 74:Pit or flush toilets There are pit toilets located throughout the campground and day-use area.
- 74:Drinking water A well is located in the day-use parking area near the park entrance. Visitors can access water using the hand pump.
- 74:Campfires While campfires are allowed and campfire rings are provided at each campsite, we encourage visitors to conserve wood and protect the environment by minimizing the use of fire and using campstoves instead. Firewood can be purchased in the park or you may bring your own wood. Fees for firewood are set locally and may vary from park to park.To preserve vegetation and ground cover, please don’t gather firewood from the area around your campsite or elsewhere in the park (this is a ticketable offence under the Park Act). Dead wood is an important habitat element for many plants and animals and it adds organic matter to the soil.
