About this Park

Muncho Lake Park is a serene, secluded area with stunning natural landscapes, conveniently close to the Alaska Highway. Spectacular mountains, bountiful wildlife, and brilliant wildflowers can all be viewed here.

In the southern part of the park, the unique limestone formations of Folded Mountain tower above the road. As you travel north on the highway, keep an eye out for moose and Stone sheep.

Soon, you will reach Muncho Lake. The lake’s deep cold waters, coloured jade by minerals, stretch for 12 km. These waters are home to lake trout, arctic grayling, bull trout, and whitefish.

Having reached Muncho Lake, you can spend the night at Strawberry Flats Campground. Alternatively, keep heading another 11 km north to reach MacDonald Campground.

Muncho Lake Park can be accessed via the Alaska Highway at kilometre 681. The highway runs through the park and provides access to the two BC Parks campgrounds: Strawberry Flats and MacDonald.

93:Wildlife viewing There are many wildlife viewing opportunities in Muncho Lake Park. The highway corridor through the park is one of the best available locations for viewing northern wildlife.Some of the most common species include caribou, moose, Stone sheep, and mountain goats. Grizzly and black bears, wolves, coyotes, lynx, martins, marmots, fishers, and beavers are less common but may be seen.The park is also a great destination for bird watchers. Muncho Lake and Drogheda Lake are both congregation areas for migrating birds. These include Canada geese, ducks, grebes, mergansers, loons.Reduce your speed when animals are on or near the highway. 93:Pets on leash Dogs and other domestic animals must be leashed and are not allowed in beach areas or park buildings. You must always be in control of your pets and dispose of their waste appropriately.
93:Cycling There are cycling opportunities in Muncho Lake Park. Bicycles must keep to roads and designated trails. Bicycle helmets are mandatory in British Columbia. For information on using bicycles with electric assist motors, see e-biking. 
93:E-Biking Bicycles with electric assist motors (e-bikes) are not allowed on the trails within Muncho Lake Park. E-bikes are restricted to park roads and areas where motorized vehicles are allowed. They must meet the rules and classifications outlined on the cycling page.
93:Waterskiing Waterskiing opportunities are available on Muncho Lake. Waterskiing is allowed for visitors with extensive previous experience.
93:Scuba diving Scuba diving and snorkelling opportunities are available in Muncho Lake, for visitors with extensive previous experience.

93:Drinking water Hand pumps provide drinking water throughout Muncho Lake Park. These pumps are only available during peak season.
93:Boat launch A boat launch is available at MacDonald Campground. For a map with the boat launch location, see maps and location.
93:Campfires Campfires are allowed at vehicle-accessible campgrounds in Muncho Lake Park. Fire rings are provided at each campsite. Campfires are allowed in fire rings only. Campfires are not allowed in the backcountry.Do not gather firewood in the park. This is an offence under the Park Act. Dead wood is important habitat for plants and animals, and it adds valuable organic material to the soil.If you bring your own firewood, buy it locally. Wood from other areas can spread invasive species. To learn more, visit Buy Local, Burn Local. You can buy firewood in the park. For firewood prices, contact the park operator.
93:Picnic areas Muncho Lake Park has a small day-use and picnic area next to the boat launch at MacDonald Campground. This area has one picnic table and parking spots for two vehicles.
